Bursting in Air
I had the loveliest view for the July 4 fireworks. A friend invited me to watch the display on the DC National Mall from the rooftop of her eight-floor apartment building, which stands at the highest point in the city, diagonally across Wisconsin Avenue from the National Cathedral, a couple of doors up from the Russian embassy. The day was clear and warm, but not painfully hot nor humid, and she and her husband had set up a table with wine and refreshments where we could sit and enjoy the view as the sun set and pyrotechnics began to sparkle on the horizon (courtesy of some minor municipalities and many individuals) and up from the trees and buildings all around us.
