Backup
There are more than one hundred thousand files on my external hard drive. These are currently in the process of being copied onto a second hard drive, as God forbid I lose more than a quarter century’s worth of writing in an incident or accident. Millions of words, strung together in stories, essays, rants, and poems—they are not necessarily memorable, yet if anyone should care to revisit my adventures, they’ll be preserved digitally. Just imagine how much paper a single copy of everything would consume! Yet I have so much other stuff only in printed form that I need to transcribe or scan.
